Every year the auto industry renews itself, and the North American International Auto Show in Detroit is where we see it happen. While the concept, or prototype, cars are cool to look at and get the most press, it’s the production vehicles that people will actually park in their driveways, use to get to work, shuttle the kids to soccer practice and haul groceries home from their local Costco. These are the cars that determine what consumers really think about each brand and the ones that determine each company’s success — or failure — for the year to come. Detroit has been getting a real bad rap in the press these days. But believe it or not, there’s actually some good news coming out of the Motor City this week, as the North American International Auto Show rolls into town. Surprisingly, the atmosphere during the media preview days could be described as cautiously optimistic.
